Did you switch the Amiga off after deleting ATA3.Prefs?
I agree with David Arbuthnot, in that you need to delete ATA3.Prefs from
ENVARC. What David maybe forgot to mention though is that you must
switch your Amiga off after deleting the file because ATA3.Prefs is
resident.
Delete the files, switch off your machine and leave it off for 2 or 3
minutes. When you switch back on, the ATA prefs program will load, whereby
you can select to `NO SPLIT' and it `should' save the change correctly.
I use an 8.4G drive (with PFS3 direct SCSI) as a single partition, and have
had no problems whatsoever ;-)

I would of thought it extremely unlikely to be a faulty drive - it is possible
though.
